If you were me and lived in… Australia: A Child’s Introduction to Cultures around the World by Carole P. Roman
Former social studies teacher Carole P. Roman has penned a new addition in her exciting explorations of foreign cultures and customs with “If You Were Me and Lived in … Australia”. In her years as a teacher, parent and grandparent she noticed that there aren’t many books about other cultures for our young children. So, she remedied that in introducing her new Australia installment in her series that educates our children, and us and even teachers can use them in their classrooms. The biggest reason that I like is it makes it really easy for home-schooling parents, and even fun. Ms. Roman even sends the country’s flag along with her book. What a neat idea!
In Carole P. Roman series this time she describes details that kids can relate to. Her books are for children from three (3) to eight (8) years old, and her writing is put simply, but she doesn’t talk down to the children. She sort of talks with them as if she was right here. She certainly has the knack for getting their attention I must say.
This journey are the unusual animals they have in Australia, and the stunning out of the ordinary Great Barrier Reef, the game of cricket, money and of course their national holiday Australia Day. She even explains out their special nicknames they use for people. She even tells about the curious taste sensation, Vegemite. Now I have noticed she doesn’t want to overload the children with facts, but she does leave room for expansion which is always good. I totally love the way she writes. She stays withing the age group, and keeps it educational, but fun. Children can actually realize there are different countries all over the world with different ways of doing things then in the way they do things here. We have a collection, and my grandkids have their favorite country. Read this one NaNee. No, read this one, and so the flight begins with wonderful, and colorful pictures too!
