  1. We truly lost a legend. I always loved his quirky humor. Here’s a fun fact: When I was younger and had my wisdom teeth pulled, the dentist had a tv attached to the ceiling. While we were waiting for the novocaine to take hold, he made me watch The Wacky Dentist – the one where Jerry Lewis pretends to be a dentist, and on his first day on the job he shoots the novocaine into his arm, rendering it useless.

Oh! And I’ve got Steve Perry on my post today! YAY!

  2. I can’t find it now, but when I was at Loyola in 1997, WLS-TV was filming a promo for Jerry Lewis Week on The 3:30 Movie, and getting people to come up and do their best Jerry Lewis impression. One of my friends dragged me in front of the camera and I did my best, then I asked the guys who were there if they knew my uncle Ray, who was a videotape editor at the station. Of course, they all knew him (he was the union steward as well), and when the final commercial was shown, I not only got in the commercial, I’m the only one who received a credit or who got to talk on camera. I need to look for it; I know I have a copy in my archive, but I’m afraid to post it because of the copyright police.

My favorite Jerry Lewis story was, when Dean Martin’s son died, Jerry called him (remember, they hadn’t spoken in years) and they stayed on the phone for several hours. I’d like to think Dean was there to greet him with open arms yesterday…

    Great songs!

  3. The Jerry Lewis telethon was a staple of my early life and I was so sorry to hear of his passing. Jerry Lewis was a man not appreciated enough in his home country. And, as for the Total Eclipse of the Heart – in Columbia, SC they had a “total eclipse of the park” where they held a minor league game during the eclipse (at least they stopped play, or so I was told, during totality.)

  4. Marie,

I heard about Jerry Lewis passing yesterday on our way to catch a glimpse of the solar eclipse, which was totally amazing! We were in totality for 2mins 30secs but not to worry we had protective glasses to view the phenomena. I wished I had the special lens for my camera to capture it but I didn’t since we decided too late to get it. Everything was practically gone by the time we planned to go. Anywho, love love your selections, especially The Brian Seltzer Orchestra which totally made me boogie in my chair. Have a tunetastic week, my friend and thanks for sharing the dance floor with me! 😉
