Married to my Soulmate. Mother of 4, grandmother of 12, and great-grandmother of 2 and owner of 1 demanding black lab & I'm a retired Legal Assistant & pianist. I am also on disability due to Spinal Stenosis. I am now a blogger which I love very much & it keeps me busy & I also enjoy crocheting.

  1. My Dad was a disabled (non-combat, but combat support) vet of WWII. One of my aunts also served in the WAVES (Navy women). My husband is a peacetime vet (Air Force). Two of the women I work with had sons who served in Afghanistan. This is a very sobering day, but it heartens me to see, more and more, recognition of our vets. There was so little of it when my husband served (1976-1980). Have a good week, my musical friend.

  2. Loved all of these, especially the first one. I had never heard of Neal McCoy, but if he’s okay by Wayne Newton, he’s okay by me!

This guest conductor thing was lots o’ fun! Slot me in again when you need someone.

    1. HURRAY! FOR YOU JOHN BOY!!! I WILL DO… I might be needing someone for Michelle’s place, but I shall let you know! THANKS BUNCHES! YOU’RE DUH BEST! hugs

  3. Hey Marie,
Great Memorial Day post! I never heard of Neil McCoy so that was cool. I love Toby Keith’s song.
My Dad was a veteran: he served in WWII while he was in the Navy, doing supply runs, taking supplies and planes/jets to our troops over in Japan. And then when he got out of the Navy he went and enlisted in the Army and was a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne during the Korean War and then afterward he was an MP at Ft Bragg. He has lots of tattoos and while he was alive, people were always thanking him for his service. Strangers: people that would walk past the car and see his paratrooper/82 Airborne license plate and the guys from the Fire Department and EMS would always talk to him and ask questions about his time in the service. In fact I recently had to call and ambulance for my Mom and when the firemen showed up, a few of them there had helped with Dad and had been here the night he died; the guy asked me questions about Dad and it was so touching that they remembered him.

Hope you enjoyed your picnic today!! How was it?? I miss picnics. Too damn hot to have them here (Austin, TX) but if I were back home (Niagara Falls/Buffalo) you can bet I’d have been out yard-hopping to all the parties and cookouts going on…

    Have a great week Marie.

  4. Marie,

Oh, I loved the first vid and song choice. I think I recall hearing about this song going viral but this is my first time to listen to it. Oh, man I hope it stays on top! Wayne Newton couldn’t have said it any better about these big boob heads kneeling. You (players) are paid to bring a little happiest in others’ lives, so do that and if you can find a better place to live, then go this isn’t the country for you. Thanks for sharing so many wonderful songs. Great tribute, my friend!

  5. That you for this tribute here. It was nicely done. We were raised to understand what the holiday stood for. We spent the morning of Memorial Day or the days before decorating graves at our local cemetery. MY late fathert-in-law was near Pearl Harbor in a submarine. He was always very proud of his service in the US Navy. Lots of friends and relatives who served too. My sister lost half the boys in her graduating class to the Vetnam War where the ones who surivied were treated and still today, are treated so poorly. A local community here celebrated a memorial for their local people who served during Vietnam. I never understood it all. Anyway I am grateful I was raised to understand it and the way our world is history wants to be rewritten to fit a certain group who doesn’t like what went on. I am proud to know many who served and returned and saddened for those I knew who did not return home. Thank you for sharing.

  6. What an awesome tribute you created, Marie! I never heard the ‘take a knee’ song – love it! And all your other choices too, of course. 🙂 Hope you’re enjoying your weekend! 🙂

  7. I find the cross over the flag highly offensive. Also, I strongly doubt if George Washington used the word “Christian” when talking about Americans. He and the Founding Father’s took great pride in freedom of religion and kept these references out of early America. The movement to make us a Christian nation came much later. In fact, the words to our pledge, “under God” were added during the Eisenhower era.
